Irish soda bread is a traditional quick bread that uses baking soda as a leavening agent instead of yeast. It's simple to make and perfect for serving with soups or stews.

All-purpose flour500 g

๐ŸŒถ๏ธ Spices & Herbs

Baking soda1 teaspoon
Salt1 teaspoon

Buttermilk400 ml

๐Ÿ”ช Preparation

Do this before you start cooking

  • Preheat oven to 200ยฐC
  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper
  • Measure out the buttermilk

๐Ÿ“‹ Instructions

In a large bowl, mix together the flour, baking soda, and salt.

Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and pour in the buttermilk.

Stir gently with a wooden spoon until a dough forms.

Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead lightly for about 30 seconds.

Shape the dough into a round loaf and place it on the prepared baking sheet.

Cut a deep cross into the top of the loaf with a sharp knife.

Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes until golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.

Let cool on a wire rack before slicing.
